Bold, bright makeup for spring

spring makeupSpring has sprung, yoohoo! Yes, finally, the mist is lifting up, the frost has begun to clear, the temperature has stopped plummeting further and the ice princesses across the country have begun to thaw. Now, a walk down the street reveals an occasional bare limb or collar bone which really lifts up my spirits. The monotonous blacks, whites and greys of winter clothes have started giving way to brighter hues of spring. While it has always been on trend to mark the end of winters and the beginning of spring by introducing bold and bright hues to your clothes, this year, let this transformation not be limited. This year, think beyond your closet and introduce a shocking colour palette to your makeup too.

Electric eyes and flamboyant lips? Pray, why not? If you have been kind to your lips throughout last season and pampered them with emollient-rich balms and glosses, they should be in perfect pout-worthy condition now. All the more reasons to pucker up in some jaw-dropping, drool-worthy and traffic-halting shades of lipsticks, tints and glosses.

And on days when you are giving your lips a break from all the attention they are getting due to the vivid hues, go ecstatic with the eyes. Whether you fill the entire lid with some pop-out colour, draw a catty and colourful line on the upper lid, use bright eye crayon to fill up your water line or even opt for colourful mascara, girls can have a lot of fun with colour in their eyes. What’s best about this trend is that the same shades can be used to rock both daytime and night looks so a touch up of your makeup is all you need for your transition from a flashy day diva to a psychedelic night goddess.

So pack away the heavy foundations of winters, opt for tinted moisturisers or even better, go for the right BB cream and paint your face in hues of happiness. Some of the shades I like are:

For lips – Orange (Tropica by Black Opal, Blast Flipstick by CoverGirl), Coral (Marvelous Moxie by Bare Minerals), Purple (Butterfly Dream by MAC)

For eyes – Urban Decay Loose Pigment Powder Eyeshadow in shades Protest and Shattered, Krazy Girl Sparkle Liquid Eyeliner (shades Cerise, Dark Green and Turquoise are to die for)
