London 2012: Bolts of Joy

UsainBoltThe much-talked about Olympic Games have finally come to an end and what a spectacular event it turned out to be! World records were broken and new ones were made. While some lived up to expectations, some came from nowhere causing upsets and winning hearts at the same time. And of course, there was the Bolt of lightning that mesmerised one and all. Theatrics weren’t to be left far behind either. The moment when the queen turned from her desk and said “Good evening Mr Bond,” to Daniel Craig will be long remembered.

Here’s a quick recap of the 3 most memorable incidents of the London Olympics 2012:

  • Cheetahs beware. Humans should stop competing with him as he clearly beyond their reach. A true showman, this bolt of lightning left us all awestruck in the 100 and 200 metres races. Apart from such individual highs, Usain Bolt even anchored Jamaica’s world record breaking 4x100m relay. And the most delicious of all Bolt moments? Him crossing the 200m finish line alongside Yohan Blake, locking eyes and Bolt sushing Blake with a finger on his lips. Classic!
  • The most decorated Olympian of all times bid adieu to the Games. As Michael Phelps swam the last race of his Olympic career, he did it in style and bagged his 18th solo gold medal. In total, he has 22 medals, the highest ever and by the looks of it, the figure will remain unchallenged for quite some time to come.
  • He sought revenge and he got it! Yes, our very own Andy Murray avenged his Wimbledon defeat to Roger Federer just over a month back by upstaging the veteran and stopping him from winning the gold medal in what was possibly his last Olympic outing. Let’s hope this paves the way for Grand Slam wins in the future.
